Korean BBQ Chicken Drumsticks – Sweet, Spicy and Juicy

The Korean BBQ sauce is a very different breed. Flavors are salty, sweet, spicy and engaging. When brushed over chicken and baked it makes it so irresistibly delicious! Yes, you can get store-bought, but making your own is not that difficult and you know exactly what goes into it!

Ingredients

  • 8 chicken drumsticks!

BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup rice vinegar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 6 cloves garlic(minced)
  • 1 tbsp ginger(minced)
  • ½ tsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • diced green onion(for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small sauce pan add soy sauce and cornstarch and heat it up.
  2. Then add: sesame seed oil and rice vinegar, mix.
  3. Add brown sugar and bring to a boil.
  4. Add spices, ginger and garlic.
  5. Cook for 1 more minute and it's done!
  6. Cool it a little bit.
  7. Brush over chicken on both sides(2 coats).
  8. Bake at 375°F(190°C) for 45 minutes.
  9. Sometimes takes longer(depends on size of the chicken).
  10. But make sure your chicken is completely done!
  11. You can tell if the meat will start separating from the bone!
  12. Take out of the oven and give it one more brush with BBQ sauce!
  13. Garnish with green onion.

Notes

In Korea this dish served as an appetizer, but you can enjoy it with a side of brown rice as a light dinner!
